A Day to Remember
On Friday January 18th (yes, the day of the blizzard) Walsall Tree Wardens and members of the Arboretum User Group assisted in the planting of the first of ten Yew Trees at the top of High Street. This was to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Parish Church of St. Mathews. It is hoped that the planting will provide an improved view from nearer the town centre up to the church.
The Mayor of Walsall Dennis Anson and the Reverend Colin Gibson each planted a tree before repairing to the Church Hall where tea and coffee was provided for everyone involved including the tree-planting team led by Ian McDermott and Andy Allison.
This was a tremendous achievement considering the atrocious weather conditions and our special thanks must go to the Mayor for attending as well as wardens and volunteers who courageously braved the elements.
